How the engine works
Three levels of analysis, so you don't overspend
vario doesn't send every message to a heavy language model. The engine filters in layers, escalating analysis only when the signal warrants it — keeping the cost per message low even at high volumes.
Initial filter (L1)
the cheapest filter
Keyword and semantic embedding scoring, with no language model invoked. Discards noise in under 200 ms — ideal for a first massive sweep of the full communications volume.
Fast triage (L2)
moderate precision
A lightweight language model evaluates the context of messages that pass the first filter, in under 1.5 seconds, to decide whether they warrant deeper analysis.
Deep analysis (L3)
maximum precision
For the highest-risk signals, a full reasoning model explains the identified pattern, cites the exact phrases that evidence it, and recommends a concrete action: open a case, escalate or dismiss.
Every alert indicates which pipeline level evaluated it — the compliance team knows immediately how much weight to give it, without guessing.

Messages are encrypted with an organization-unique key held in AWS KMS, with access controls separate from the application. We never use client data to train models.
